November 16, 2022 – South Mill Champs, one of the largest mushroom growers in North America, announces the first harvest at its new state-of-the-art, approximately 300,000 ft2 farm in Oxford, Pennsylvania.
This first stage of the new farm is projected to produce 16 to 18 million pounds of retail-grade mushrooms annually when operating at full capacity. The Oxford farm will be South Mill Champs’ largest modern farm once fully complete. The initial stage of the new farm will create approximately 120 jobs in Chester County.
South Mill Champs also expanded its warehousing capabilities in Atlanta in January, acquired G&K Distributing in Los Angeles in August, and is planning further operational expansions as it continues to experience increasing demand for high-quality mushrooms across its supply chain.
“We’ve worked very hard to reach this moment,” says Sandy Malouff-Quintana, Sales Director. “The additional pounds this farm will bring to market will allow us to continue to service our existing customers and take on new ones. We are in a great position to help alleviate mushroom shortages the industry is experiencing and continue to be a supplier that customers can rely on.”
“Our customers have come to expect quality mushrooms and service from South Mill Champs. By utilizing modern growing techniques, we are able to grow more high-quality mushrooms,” says Michael Richmond, Vice President of Sales. “Over the past 90 years we have proven ourselves to be a reliable supplier and will continue this legacy as we bring these new pounds to market. We are excited for what the future holds.”
The first mushrooms harvested from the farm were proudly donated to the Chester County Food Bank to help feed local families in need.
