Employee Spotlight: J. Carmen Aguilera

This entry was posted in Company News and tagged on .

J. Carmen Aguilera has been a part of our South Mill family for the past 30 years! Commonly known as “Carmelo”, he was born in Monte de los Juarez in Guanajuato, Mexico, and came to the United States with a cousin when he was 14 years old. He was able to obtain his permanent residency status through the Amnesty Program in 1986 and has worked in the mushroom industry ever since. Carmelo began with us as a Harvester at our Alpine Farm and was then asked to be a Harvesting Supervisor. He eventually became the Harvesting Manager; and after several years, began learning mushroom growing under the tutelage of Felipe Ayllon Mendiola, a longtime Grower at South Mill. Carmelo is now the Farm Manager at our M&J Farm, and we are happy that he has stayed at South Mill for all these years. He enjoys his work and he likes constantly learning; the ever changing environment; and all the friendships he has at South Mill. Carmelo’s son, Jessie, works for us in our Kennett Growing Division as a Research Technician. Carmelo lives in Delaware with his wife, Alicia, his son, Jessie, and his daughter Amy, who recently graduated from high school. During his free time, he enjoys working in his vegetable garden at home and taking walks whenever he can. Thank you for your many years of dedication, Carmelo!
